Why WordPress

Why I build every website on WordPress

WordPress is a content management system (CMS) that enables you to create a website or blog from scratch or to improve an existing website. It’s estimated that WordPress powers around 43% of all websites on the internet, which means there’s a good chance you’ve already visited a WordPress site without even knowing it!

One of the reasons WordPress is so popular is because it’s free to use. That doesn’t mean there are no costs associated with using WordPress – you will still need to pay for things like hosting, a domain name, and any plugins which you may need along the way – but the software itself is free, unlike other software like WIX or Squarespace which have monthly subscriptions.

Another reason I choose WordPress over other platforms and is a good choice for many businesses is that it’s easy to use. I build all of my websites using a visual builder, this allows you to take full control after the website is built, so if there are any tweaks or changes you’d like to make down the line you can do so without having to worry about being too techy!

Free, open-source software with no monthly platform subscription

Around 43% of the internet already runs on it

A visual builder you can use yourself, without being techy

Room for booking forms, payment gateways and integrations

A plugin for almost anything your business needs later on

You own the site outright rather than renting it by the month

That combination is why every site I hand over is a WordPress site — powerful enough to grow with the business, simple enough that you can run it yourself the day after launch.

What you get

My WordPress websites are loaded with features

Every WordPress site I build ships with the same foundations — responsive design, hardened security, fast load times, translation-ready pages and a real person to call when something needs attention.

Fully Responsive Design

As a WordPress designer I build every site with mobile users in mind. My responsive designs provide an ideal user experience no matter what device you’re using – your website will look great and work perfectly on any size screen! With this advantage, customers can easily access useful information whether they’re at home or out and about. Make sure to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to web design; invest in a fully accessible site that looks good across all devices today!

Top Level Security

Protecting your WordPress website is easy if you take the right precautions. Start by selecting a secure password for your admin account – aim for at least 8 characters, as well as an array of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. Additionally, make sure to stay up-to-date with the latest version of WordPress; this way any security threats can be quickly addressed without putting your site in danger. These simple steps will give you peace of mind when it comes to keeping hackers far away from accessing sensitive information!

Blazing Fast Performance

I make sure WordPress websites are built with speed and performance in mind. All WordPress sites are built using the latest web design trends, making them as fast as possible for users. I have extensive experience when it comes to creating high-quality, reliable WordPress sites while keeping performance top of mind. I understand the importance of having a website that is up to date with modern web standards and optimized for quick loading times – this ensures your visitors have an enjoyable experience on your site!

Multi-Lingual Plugins

If you’re looking for a site to view worldwide, don’t worry, there are Multi-Lingual plugins for WordPress. One such WordPress plugin is WPML, which enables WordPress websites to be translated into multiple languages. This type of multi-lingual web design allows for international business growth and an increased audience reach. With the help of this WordPress plugin, you can easily create a multi-language website with only a few simple clicks. Additionally, WPML offers professional support in case you have any technical questions or issues during the process. Your WordPress site will also be fully optimized across different search engines and devices so that it’s accessible no matter where your customers are located around the world.

Around-the-clock support

I keep your WordPress site running smoothly, with maintenance plans that cover monitoring, updates and a real person to call. I provide comprehensive maintenance for WordPress web design, ensuring that critical updates are installed and any issues with the WordPress platform or plugins are quickly addressed. I also make sure your website is secure from potential hackers, so you can rest assured knowing that your WordPress site is safe in our hands.

eCommerce when you need it

If you want to sell online, WordPress handles that too. I build shops on WooCommerce, with products, payment gateways and delivery options set up properly from day one — and the same visual builder behind the rest of the site.

On design

Design is the paradise of individuality, eccentricity, abnormality, and humors.

Pricing

How much does a WordPress website cost?

When it comes time to create a website, one of the first questions that often comes up is “how much does it cost?” It’s a valid question, and one that doesn’t have a single answer. The cost of a website can vary greatly, depending on a number of factors.

Some of the factors that can affect website cost are:

  • The size and complexity of the website
  • The amount of content (text, images, videos)
  • The number of pages
  • The use of audio or video
  • The need for ecommerce functionality
  • Ongoing maintenance and updates

In general, simple website designs with minimal content can cost as little as £300 if you’re looking for a 1-page website. More complex websites with more content, for example, a 5-8 page website will cost roughly £800 then if you’re looking for a larger website with eCommerce functionality and around 20 products will cost around £2500.

One page £300

A simple website design with minimal content — enough to put your business online properly.

  • Single-page custom design
  • Mobile responsive layout
  • Contact form and click-to-call
  • Basic SEO setup
  • SSL certificate
Most businesses £800

A 5-8 page website with more content — services, about, portfolio, contact and the pages that win you work.

  • 5-8 page custom design
  • Visual builder so you can edit it
  • Contact forms and integrations
  • Basic SEO setup
  • Training guide and handover
eCommerce £2500

A larger website with eCommerce functionality and around 20 products, built on WooCommerce.

  • Full shop build and product setup
  • Payment gateway and delivery options
  • Booking forms or integrations
  • Basic SEO setup
  • Training guide and handover

On top of the build cost you will need hosting. I host and look after the sites I build myself, on UK servers, so you have one person to call when something needs attention rather than a support queue. If you would rather arrange your own, I am happy to advise on what will suit the site.

Optional ongoing costs: WordPress support and maintenance, SEO retainers from £250/month.

Why choose a WordPress website over Wix or Squarespace?

When it comes to building a website yourself, it can often take a long time to learn how to use the software on sites such as WIX or Squarespace, they also have a monthly cost of around £30/month normally which all adds up! Having a bespoke website built by myself, you’ll end up with a website that looks amazing, is easy to manage, and is able to grow with your business. Not to mention, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that your website is 100% yours, rather than being held captive. I’ve tested the platforms head-to-head in my Wix vs Squarespace vs WordPress comparison.

Is WordPress really free?

The software itself is free and open source. What you pay for is hosting, your domain name, any premium plugins you need, and the design and build work. There’s no monthly licence fee for the platform, which is the main difference from the subscription builders.

How long does a WordPress website take to build?

Around 3–4 weeks for a typical 5-8 page site. A one-page site can be quicker; a larger build with eCommerce, multiple integrations or a lot of content can run to 6 weeks or more. I’ll give you a realistic timeline during the initial call.

Can I update the website myself once it’s live?

Yes — that’s the whole point of the visual builder. Add photos, change your phone number, write a new page, update your prices. You get an easy-to-use guide at handover, and I’m on the end of the phone if you get stuck.

Do you host the WordPress websites you build?

I do. I host and maintain the sites I build on UK servers, with maintenance plans covering monitoring, backups, core and plugin updates. If you’d rather arrange your own hosting, that’s completely fine — I’ll advise on what will suit the site.

Is WordPress secure?

It is, provided it’s looked after. A strong admin password, the latest version of WordPress, well-maintained plugins and an SSL certificate cover the vast majority of risk. On the sites I maintain, I handle all of that for you through WordPress support.

Will my WordPress site work properly on mobile?

Every site is built mobile-first and tested across iPhone, Android, tablet and desktop before it goes live. Google requires it and your customers expect it. There’s more on how it works on my responsive web design page.

Can WordPress handle an online shop?

Yes. WooCommerce turns WordPress into a full shop — products, variations, stock, payment gateways, delivery rules and order management. A site with eCommerce functionality and around 20 products typically comes in at around £2500.

Can my WordPress website be translated into other languages?

It can. WPML lets a WordPress site be translated into multiple languages, which is how I build sites for businesses selling beyond the UK. Each language version stays properly optimised for search engines rather than being bolted on with an automatic translate widget.

Can you redesign my existing WordPress website?

Yes. WordPress lets you improve an existing website rather than starting from scratch, so if the content and rankings are worth keeping I’ll rebuild around them. That’s a website redesign — usually quicker and cheaper than a brand new build.

Do you only work with businesses in Sussex?

No. I’m based in Brighton, Sussex, but I work with businesses across the UK — everything happens over phone, email and video calls, so distance is never an issue. In over 10 years there aren’t many industries I haven’t built a WordPress site for.
