Medical Website Design for UK Healthcare Professionals

I’m Spencer, a freelance web designer based in Brighton. I build custom, GDPR-compliant websites for healthcare professionals across Sussex and the UK — from GP surgeries and private clinics to cosmetic surgery practices and physiotherapy centres.

If your medical practice is relying on an outdated website that doesn’t reflect the quality of care you provide, we should talk. No agency fees. No templates. Just a purpose-built medical website designed around your practice, your patients, and your regulatory requirements.

Whether you’re a private clinic needing patient booking integration, an NHS practice requiring accessibility compliance, or a specialist looking to attract new referrals — I’ll build a website that meets UK healthcare standards and earns patient trust from the first click. Every site is built with GDPR compliance, patient data security, and CQC regulation requirements in mind.

Every medical web design project starts with a free mockup, so you see the direction before paying anything.

Choosing a specialist medical website designer means your site is built around how your industry actually wins work.

Why Healthcare Professionals Need a Professional Website

Patients research healthcare providers online before booking. Whether they’re looking for a GP surgery, private consultant, or specialist clinic, your website is often the first impression they get of your practice.

A generic template website won’t cut it in healthcare. Neither will the one built five years ago that still mentions HIPAA instead of GDPR. You need something that:

* Meets UK GDPR and data protection requirements
* Displays your CQC registration and regulatory information clearly
* Integrates with patient booking platforms like Doctify, Cliniko, or Pabau
* Makes it easy for patients to find your services, practitioners, and opening hours
* Looks as professional and trustworthy as the care you provide
* Meets WCAG accessibility standards

That’s what I build. Whether you’re a solo practitioner in Sussex or a multi-site private clinic group operating nationally, your website should be your most effective patient acquisition tool — building trust and generating bookings while you focus on patient care.

What I Offer

GDPR-Compliant Medical Website Design

Every medical website I build is designed with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 at its core. This means properly configured contact forms with explicit consent checkboxes, secure data handling, compliant cookie policies, and clear privacy notices. I follow Caldicott Principles for any patient-facing data collection, ensuring your website meets the standards expected by the ICO and your professional regulatory body. No patient data is stored insecurely, and all forms use encrypted connections.

Patient Booking Integration

I integrate your website with the booking platforms healthcare professionals actually use. Whether you’re on Doctify, Cliniko, WriteUpp, Pabau, iMedDoc, or a bespoke NHS system, I’ll embed your booking flow directly into your website so patients can schedule appointments without leaving your site. Online booking reduces admin calls, cuts no-shows, and gives patients the convenience they expect in 2026.

Medical SEO

Getting found on Google is essential for patient acquisition. Every medical website I build includes:

* Local SEO setup targeting [treatment] + [your location]” searches
* Google Business Profile optimisation for your practice
* Proper page titles and meta descriptions with medical keywords
* Fast loading speeds (Google rewards this)
* Mobile friendly design (Google requires this)
* Schema markup for medical businesses and healthcare providers

Want to rank higher than competing practices in your area? I offer ongoing SEO retainers to build your visibility over time.

Patient Portal Features

Modern patients expect more than a static brochure website. I can integrate secure patient portals, downloadable registration forms, pre-appointment questionnaires, and secure messaging systems. Whether you need a simple contact form or a full patient intake workflow integrated with your practice management software, I’ll build it to work seamlessly on desktop and mobile.

Accessibility (WCAG Compliance)

Healthcare websites have a particular responsibility to be accessible to all patients, including those with disabilities. Every site I build meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards as a minimum — proper colour contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, alt text on all images, and clear typography. This isn’t just good practice; NHS Digital requires accessibility compliance for publicly funded healthcare services, and the Equality Act 2010 applies to all healthcare providers.

What Makes a Good Medical Website?

I’ve built medical websites for healthcare professionals across Sussex and the UK. Here’s what separates the sites that build patient trust and generate bookings from the ones that sit there doing nothing:

GDPR compliance built in, not bolted on. A compliant privacy policy page isn’t enough. Your contact forms need explicit consent checkboxes, your cookies need proper management, and any patient data collection must follow UK GDPR and the Caldicott Principles. I build this into the foundation, not as an afterthought.

Patient booking systems that actually work. Whether you use Doctify, Cliniko, Pabau, WriteUpp, or iMedDoc, your booking system should be embedded seamlessly into your website. Patients should be able to book, reschedule, or cancel without picking up the phone.

CQC information displayed prominently. If your practice is CQC registered, your registration details, latest inspection rating, and a link to your CQC profile should be easy to find. This builds immediate trust and is expected by informed patients.

Individual treatment and service pages. Don’t cram everything onto one page. Each treatment or service you offer should have its own dedicated page — this is better for patients AND for Google rankings.

Practitioner profiles with credentials. Patients want to know who they’ll be seeing. GMC or GDC registration numbers, qualifications, specialisms, and a professional photo. This is the single biggest trust signal on any medical website.

Patient testimonials with proper consent. Reviews build trust, but healthcare testimonials require extra care. I’ll help you display patient feedback in a way that’s compliant with GMC guidance and advertising standards.

Location, opening hours, and emergency information. Patients need to find you quickly. Clear maps, parking information, accessibility details, and what to do in an emergency should all be prominent.

Every medical website I build includes all of these elements as standard. Want to see what this looks like in practice? Check out the examples below.

Medical Website Examples

I’ve built websites for dental practices, cosmetic surgery clinics, and other healthcare professionals across Sussex and the UK. Due to the sensitive nature of medical and patient data — and strict GDPR requirements around healthcare marketing — I don’t publish medical client work publicly in my portfolio without explicit consent.

What I can tell you is that every healthcare website I build follows the same proven approach: GDPR-compliant data handling from the ground up, booking system integration tailored to the practice’s workflow, practitioner profile pages with proper credential display, and mobile-first design that makes it easy for patients to book from their phone.

How I Work

1

Initial consultation

We discuss your healthcare practice, your patient demographic, and what you need from your medical website. I’ll ask about your booking systems, regulatory requirements, and any specific integrations you need. No sales pitch — just an honest conversation about what will work for your practice.
2

Quote and mockup

Fixed price, no surprises. I'll create a free mockup so you can see the direction before committing a penny. I can also provide a free mockup via my dedicated page.
3

Design and build

I handle everything — design, content, GDPR compliance setup, booking integration, SEO setup, accessibility testing. You'll see progress and can give feedback throughout.
4

Handover and training

Your finished medical website plus full training on updating content, adding practitioners, and managing your booking integration. No mandatory monthly fees.

How Much Does a Medical Website Cost?

Most medical websites I build start from around £800 for a smaller practice with straightforward requirements. That typically includes:

* 5-8 page custom WordPress website
* Mobile responsive design
* GDPR-compliant contact forms
* Patient booking integration
* CQC and accreditation display
* Practitioner profile pages
* Basic SEO setup
* SSL security certificate
* Training and 30 days support

Larger healthcare practices — multi-practitioner clinics, practices needing extensive treatment pages, patient portal features, or multi-location sites — are typically in the £1,500 – £3,000+ range.

Every project gets a fixed quote upfront — no hourly billing, no surprise invoices. And I offer a free mockup before you commit, so you can see exactly what you’re getting.

Optional ongoing costs: hosting from £10/month, SEO retainers from £250/month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my medical website GDPR compliant?

Every medical website I build is designed with UK GDPR compliance as a core requirement, not an afterthought. This includes properly configured contact forms with explicit consent checkboxes, compliant cookie management, secure SSL encryption, clear privacy policies, and proper data processing documentation. For healthcare practices handling patient data, I follow the Caldicott Principles and ensure your website meets ICO expectations. I use GDPR throughout — not HIPAA, which is an American standard and does not apply to UK healthcare providers.

How do you handle patient data security on the website?

Patient data security is built into every layer of the website. All forms use SSL-encrypted connections. Contact form submissions are sent directly to your practice email — I don’t store patient data on the website server. If your practice requires patient intake forms or pre-appointment questionnaires, I’ll integrate these with your existing practice management system (such as Cliniko, Pabau, or WriteUpp) so data goes straight into your secure clinical system rather than sitting on a web server.

Can patients book appointments directly through the website?

Yes. I integrate your website with the booking platforms healthcare professionals actually use — including Doctify, Cliniko, WriteUpp, Pabau, iMedDoc, and others. The booking system is embedded directly into your website so patients can view availability and book without leaving your site. This reduces admin phone calls, cuts no-shows through automated reminders, and gives patients the self-service booking experience they expect.

Do you build websites for NHS practices or just private clinics?

Both. I work with NHS GP surgeries, NHS dental practices, and private healthcare providers. For NHS practices, I’m familiar with the specific requirements around accessibility (meeting NHS Digital standards), integration with NHS systems, and the need to display NHS service information clearly. For private clinics, the focus shifts more to patient acquisition, treatment marketing, and booking conversion. Many of my clients operate in both sectors.

What about CQC requirements for my website?

If your practice is CQC registered, I’ll prominently display your CQC registration number, latest inspection rating, and a direct link to your CQC profile page. I’ll also ensure your website includes all the information CQC expects to see — practitioner qualifications, GMC or GDC registration numbers, complaints procedures, and a clear statement of your regulated activities. Good CQC visibility on your website builds immediate patient trust.

Do you work with specific medical sectors?

Yes — I’ve built websites for GP surgeries, private clinics, dental practices, cosmetic surgery clinics, physiotherapy practices, dermatology clinics, mental health practitioners, fertility clinics, orthopaedic consultants, aesthetic clinics, opticians, and pharmacies. The core principles remain the same — GDPR compliance, patient trust, booking integration — but I tailor the design and content strategy to each medical specialism.

Does my medical website need to meet accessibility standards?

Yes — and I build every site to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards as a minimum. This means proper colour contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, descriptive alt text on images, and clear typography. Healthcare websites have a particular duty to be accessible under the Equality Act 2010. NHS-funded services must also comply with NHS Digital accessibility requirements. Accessible design isn’t just a legal obligation — it ensures all your patients can use your website, including those with visual impairments, motor disabilities, or cognitive conditions.

Do you only work with healthcare practices in Sussex?

No. While I’m based in Brighton, Sussex, I work with healthcare professionals across the UK. Most of my communication happens over Zoom and email. I’ve built medical websites for practices in Sussex, Surrey, Kent, London, and nationally. The regulatory requirements are the same wherever you’re based in the UK, so location is no barrier.
