Physiotherapy Website Design

I’m Spencer, a freelance web designer in Brighton. I build websites for physiotherapy clinics and independent physios — designed around how people actually find a physio: in pain, on a phone, hunting for the next appointment.

No agency, no templates, no account manager. Over 10 years with WordPress, 100+ websites built and 55+ businesses worked with directly.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy, sports injury and rehab — clinic, home visit or online. Offer talking therapies instead? My therapist web design page fits better.

Why it matters

Two very different people land on a physio website

In the UK you can self-refer to a private physiotherapist — no GP letter, no waiting list. So much of your traffic arrives having decided nothing except that something hurts. The rest is sent by a GP, a consultant or an insurer.

The self-referrer needs reassurance and a booking button. The referred patient needs detail: do you treat post-operative knees, is the practitioner HCPC registered, will the insurer pay. Most sites serve one and lose the other.

A booking route visible without scrolling

Clear “you can refer yourself” messaging

HCPC registration and CSP membership shown, not buried

A page per condition, so traffic lands on the answer

Session fees and block pricing stated openly

Which insurers you’re recognised by

“Physiotherapist” is a protected title in the UK — only someone registered with the Health and Care Professions Council can legally use it. That’s a real advantage over the unregulated end of the injury market.

The essentials

What a physiotherapy website has to do

Six things separate a site that fills a diary from one that looks tidy.

Online booking, not just a phone number

A phone number only works while the clinic is open and the patient is free to talk — not at 11pm with a shoulder they can’t sleep on. Those visitors either book online or go back and book with someone who let them.

A page for every condition

Nobody searches “physiotherapy clinic”. They search sciatica, back pain, runner’s knee, ACL rehab, frozen shoulder. Each gets a page — what it is, what treatment looks like, and a booking button.

Private, NHS and insurer clarity

“Am I covered” is a genuine search filter. If you’re recognised by Bupa, AXA Health or Vitality, that deserves its own page with pre-authorisation spelled out — plus how private work sits alongside any NHS contract.

Practitioner bios with specialisms

Patients choose a person, not a premises. Each physio gets a profile: HCPC number, CSP membership, training, and what they actually work in — sports injury, post-surgical rehab, chronic pain. The bio books straight into their diary.

Exercise prescription and video

Rehab happens between appointments. A video library by body area, a login-protected patient section, or a handoff into Physitrack or Rehab My Patient keeps the programme in front of patients.

Built for someone in pain, on a phone

Nobody in pain reads three paragraphs of practice philosophy to find out if you can see them this week. Fast loading, big tap targets, prices near the top, and a booking button that follows them down the page.

All six are standard on every clinic site I build — not upsells. Want to see the work? Have a look at my portfolio.

Why this sector

I’ve spent a lot of my life on the other side of the treatment table

Before Podium Design I was a middle-distance runner and a British 800m Champion. Competitive running comes with a standing appointment at a physio clinic — rehab plans, loading programmes, the slow return from a strain you thought would take a fortnight.

What that’s worth

I’m not a clinician and won’t pretend to be. But I know what it is to be the patient searching at speed, and why “when can I run again” belongs on the page, not in the first appointment.

Who I build for
  • Single-handed physios going private, or splitting NHS and private work
  • Multi-practitioner clinics with several diaries and specialisms
  • Mobile and home-visit physios needing a service-area page
  • Sports injury and rehab clinics working with clubs and athletes
Pricing

How much does a physiotherapy website cost?

Builds start from £800. Most clinic projects land between £800 and £3,000; larger builds — multiple practitioners, a deep condition library, a gated exercise area — sit in the £2,000 – £5,000+ range.

What moves the number is page count and integration work, not design time. Every project gets a fixed quote upfront and a free mockup first.

Separate, optional products: hosting from £10/month, support and care plans from £30/month, and SEO retainers from £250/month.

What’s included

Physiotherapy web design services

Built in from the start, not bolted on later.

Clinic, home visit or online

Three products, three different questions — where, how long, how much. I set the booking flow up so a visitor picks the format first and never has to guess whether you’ll travel to them. Mobile physios get a coverage-area page, not a shopfront.

Condition pages that earn the traffic

I structure pages around what people actually type:

  • Sports injury — hamstring, calf, ankle, return-to-sport timelines
  • Back pain and sciatica — the highest-volume terms in the sector
  • Post-operative rehab — knee, hip and shoulder
  • Running injuries — a self-diagnosing, motivated audience

Each ends where the visitor already wants to be: the diary.

Insurer recognition, spelled out

A patient with cover filters by insurer before anything else. A page naming who you’re recognised by, what pre-authorisation they need, and what happens with excess and shortfalls turns a hesitant browser into a booking.

Transparent fees and local search

“Prices on enquiry” costs clinics more enquiries than it protects. I lay out initial assessment, follow-up and block-of-sessions pricing plainly, with appointment lengths beside each. I also align the site with your Google Business Profile and build the location pages that catch nearby searches.

WordPress, owned by you

Every site is a custom WordPress build you own outright — no proprietary platform, no hostage situation if you move on. Add a condition page, change your fees or upload a video without calling anyone. I train you at handover, and hosting and support stay optional.

How a clinic build runs

Four stages, from first call to a site your team can run without me.

Your caseload, specialisms, booking software, and where enquiries leak.

Then

Quote and mockup

A fixed price and a free mockup, so you see the design and booking journey first.

After that

Design and build

Condition pages, booking integration, practitioner profiles, mobile testing, SEO setup.

Finally

Handover and training

The finished site plus training. No mandatory monthly fee.

How much does a physiotherapy website cost?

From £800, with most clinic projects between £800 and £3,000, and larger builds in the £2,000 – £5,000+ range. Fixed quote upfront — I don’t bill hourly. Hosting from £10/month and support plans from £30/month are separate optional products, as are SEO retainers from £250/month.

Can you integrate my booking software?

Yes. Cliniko, Jane, WriteUpp and TM3 all offer an embed or booking link that sits natively in the design rather than throwing patients out to a bare third-party page. Haven’t chosen a system? Tell me how you work and I’ll talk you through the options.

Do I need a separate page for every condition?

If you want search traffic, yes. A single “conditions treated” page listing twenty conditions ranks for none of them. Separate pages for sciatica, back pain, sports injury, running injuries and post-operative rehab each pick up their own traffic. Start with five or six.

Should I put HCPC and CSP on the site?

Absolutely. “Physiotherapist” is a protected title in the UK, so Health and Care Professions Council registration isn’t a nice-to-have badge — it’s what legally distinguishes you. Chartered Society of Physiotherapy membership sits alongside it, and both belong on practitioner bios. Insurers, referring GPs and patients all look for it.

Do you only work with clinics in Sussex?

No. I’m based in Brighton and work across Sussex, but I build for clinics UK-wide — the process runs over calls and email. Have a look at my portfolio, or get in touch.

Are you a physiotherapy web design agency?

No — I’m one person. I’ve built over 100 WordPress websites, worked directly with more than 55 businesses across 10+ years, and have 51 five-star reviews. At an agency, the person who takes your brief is rarely the one who builds the site.
