Consultant Website Design

I’m Spencer, a freelance web designer in Brighton. I build websites for independent consultants and small consultancies — strategy, management, HR, IT, operations — where the site does the job an office and a logo wall does for everybody else.

You sell something invisible to people who’ve never met you. The website is the only evidence they get before deciding whether you’re worth a conversation. It should make your expertise obvious in ten seconds and give one clear next step.

Sole practitioner or practice of ten, the buying decision is the same: someone reads your LinkedIn post, clicks through, and spends a minute deciding whether you’re a credible peer or a generalist with a template. Related: B2B and coaching websites.

Why it matters

Your website is the only office most clients will ever see

Most consultants have no premises, no shopfront, no reception. There’s nothing physical for a client to judge you by. The website carries the whole first impression, alone.

That changes the job. A trade website exists to get the phone ringing. A consultant’s website exists to make a senior buyer — who must justify the spend internally — confident enough to give you thirty minutes.

Establish credibility when no office or shopfront does it for you

Say precisely who you help instead of hedging with ā€œbusiness consultancyā€

Prove results without naming clients you’re bound to protect

Convert LinkedIn traffic that arrives warm and half-decided

Capture people who aren’t ready to buy yet with a report or framework

Make booking a discovery call the one repeated action on every page

Not a brochure listing services, but an argument that moves a stranger from ā€œwho is thisā€ to ā€œI should speak to themā€ — without you in the room.

The six essentials

What a consultant’s website actually has to do

Six things separate the sites that generate enquiries from the ones that do nothing.

Positioning sharp enough to exclude people

ā€œBusiness consultancyā€ tells a buyer nothing and competes with everyone. ā€œI help UK manufacturers of 50–250 staff fix operations after an acquisitionā€ tells them everything — and the people it excludes were never hiring you.

Case studies that respect confidentiality

Your best work is often under NDA, or the client would rather nobody knew they needed help. The fix is anonymised case studies with structure: sector and size instead of a name, the situation, what you did, the outcome. ā€œA 180-person logistics group, post-mergerā€ is credible; ā€œimproved efficiencyā€ isn’t.

Landing pages built for LinkedIn

For most consultants LinkedIn is the primary traffic source, not Google. Visitors arrive from a specific post, interested in one idea, usually on a phone. A generic homepage wastes that click, so I build topic pages matching what you post about.

One conversion: the discovery call

Consulting isn’t bought from a website, it’s bought in a conversation. The site has one job: get a qualified person into your calendar. Booking link in the header, the hero, after every case study, at the foot of every page.

Lead magnets and email capture

Most visitors have a live problem but no open budget yet. A checklist, framework, benchmark report or whitepaper trades expertise for an email address and keeps you in front of them until they can act.

Credentials, speaking and publications

Conference talks, chartered memberships, a book, years inside the industry before you advised it — these do the work a logo wall would otherwise do. Put them on the homepage and the about page, as evidence rather than a CV.

All six built in from the start. See the work in my portfolio.

Pricing

How much does a consultant website cost?

Consultancy sites are compact. You rarely need forty pages — usually five to eight that are genuinely persuasive, which keeps the cost sensible.

Builds start from £800, and most consultant projects land in the £800 – £3,000 range depending on page count, positioning work and integrations. Larger consultancies with several service lines and CRM integration are typically £2,000 – £5,000+.

Every project gets a fixed quote upfront, no hourly billing, plus a free mockup before you commit.

Separate, optional products: hosting from £10/month and support and care plans from £30/month. SEO retainers start at £250/month.

What’s included

Consultant web design services I offer

Everything an advisory business needs to look like the obvious choice.

Custom consultancy website design

No templates. I design around your proposition — the niche, the method, the outcome you sell. Restraint reads as seniority: stock photos of glass towers read as junior; clean typography and real substance read as expensive.

Positioning and page structure

Before design, I get the argument right — the questions a buyer silently asks:

  • Who is this for, and who is it not for?
  • What problem do they already know they have?
  • What is your method, and why does it work?
  • What proof exists that it has worked before?
  • What happens if they book a call?

That sequence becomes the homepage; everything else supports it.

Anonymised case studies

Confidentiality stops a lot of good consultants showing any proof at all. I build a format that works without naming names: sector, size and context up front, then the situation, the intervention and the result.

Booking and enquiry flow

The discovery call is the conversion, so the path to it gets designed rather than assumed. I integrate Calendly, TidyCal or HubSpot Meetings, add a qualifying form that filters tyre-kickers, and feed enquiries into your CRM.

Built on WordPress, owned by you

I’ve built on WordPress for over ten years. Add an article or case study yourself; no vendor lock-in, site yours outright. If you’d rather not touch it, hosting from £10/month and care plans from £30/month are separate products.

All of it included as standard. Fixed price, quoted upfront.

An honest word about SEO

Local SEO matters far less for you than it does for a plumber

A lot of designers sell every client the same local search package. For most consultants that’s money badly spent.

Why

Nobody searches ā€œmanagement consultant near meā€ and hires the top result. Consulting is bought nationally and often internationally, through referral and reputation. Ranking first in your town is worth little when your next client is three hundred miles away.

What to do instead

Target problem and method searches rather than place names, publish insight on the topics you want to be known for, and keep landing pages fast. That’s where SEO pays for a consultancy.

Where local still counts
  • If you deliver on site, some operations work is genuinely regional
  • A Google Business Profile is free and shows you’re a real business
  • Reviews on it carry weight with buyers who never searched locally
  • Beyond that, spend the budget on content and positioning
The process

Steps I take to ensure a smooth process

Four stages, from first conversation to a site you run yourself.

First

Discovery call

Who you serve, what you sell, where work comes from now, and what you can say publicly about past clients. No sales pitch.

Then

Quote and mockup

A fixed price with no surprises, plus a free mockup so you see the direction before committing. If it isn’t right, I change it then.

After that

Design and build

Design, page structure, case study templates, booking integration, lead magnets and SEO setup, with feedback welcome at every stage.

Finally

Handover and training

Your finished site, plus training on publishing articles and case studies. No mandatory monthly fees — you own it outright.

I can’t name my clients. Can you still make the site convincing?

Yes — it’s one of the most common situations on consultancy projects. Anonymised case studies work when they carry enough real detail: sector, approximate size, the situation you were brought in to fix, what you did, and the outcome with a number attached. I’ll build a template you can reuse.

Most of my traffic comes from LinkedIn. Does the website still matter?

It matters more, not less. LinkedIn gets you attention; the website converts it. Land an interested reader on a dated or vague site and that interest evaporates in seconds. The traffic is mostly mobile, so the site must load fast and keep the booking link in reach.

How many pages does a consultant website need?

Usually five to eight: a homepage that makes the argument, a page per service line, an about page carrying your credentials, a results section, an insights area, and contact. Depth beats sprawl.

Do you only work with consultants in Brighton and Sussex?

No. Consultancy work is rarely local and neither is mine — the process runs over video calls and email. I’ve built over 100 WordPress websites and worked directly with more than 55 businesses across the UK. If you’re nearby, my office is Main Floor, Clarendon Mansions, 80 East St, Brighton BN1 1NF.

Are you an agency?

No — I’m one person, which is probably familiar to you. The person you brief is the person who builds it. Over ten years with WordPress and 51 five-star reviews. Away from the desk I’m a former British 800m Champion, so deadlines aren’t a problem. See my portfolio or book a call.

What if I already have a site that isn’t converting?

The cause is usually positioning rather than pixels: the homepage never says who the service is for, there’s no proof anywhere, and the only call to action is a footer form. I’ll tell you honestly whether it needs a rebuild or a restructure — often the second, which is cheaper. The same comes up in accountancy and B2B.
