AI SEO, GEO & AEO Google 51 five-star reviews

AI search optimisation

I’m Spencer, a freelance SEO consultant based in Brighton. I help small businesses across the UK get found in AI search: cited in Google’s AI Overviews, and recommended when people ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini who to use. It’s SEO adapted to how people now search, sometimes called generative engine optimisation (GEO) or answer engine optimisation (AEO), done by one person with no lock-in contract.

Plans start at £250/month. Start with a free audit and I’ll show you what the main AI tools currently say about your business, and who they recommend instead.

Spencer & Yogi, Podium DesignI practise what I sell. When I asked ChatGPT, with web search on and set to the UK, for the best freelance WordPress web designer in Brighton, it recommended my business first and pointed to my reviews and my website as the reasons. That result comes from exactly the work described on this page: clear pages, consistent details across the web, genuine reviews and a site the AI tools can read properly.

Why it matters

How AI search decides which businesses to recommend

More of your customers now ask a question instead of typing a keyword: "who's a good accountant in Horsham?", "which electricians in Brighton do EV chargers?". Google answers many of those with an AI Overview above the normal results, and a growing number of people ask ChatGPT or Perplexity directly. If your business isn't in that answer, you're invisible to that customer.

There's no way to pay for a place in an AI answer. The tools build their answers from pages they can find and trust, then pick the businesses whose information is clearest and best supported. In practice, that comes down to a handful of things:

Pages that say plainly what you do, who for and where
Direct answers to the questions your customers actually ask
Schema markup that labels your business, services and prices
The same name, address and details everywhere you're listed
Genuine reviews and mentions on sites the AI tools already trust
A website AI crawlers are allowed to read, and can read quickly

Most of this overlaps with good traditional SEO, which is why AI Overviews mostly quote pages that already rank. If you want the technical side, my guide to schema markup for SEO explains how structured data helps both Google and the AI tools understand your site. Some call this GEO SEO, short for generative engine optimisation: making your business the answer AI tools choose to quote.

What's included

What my AI search optimisation includes

No magic prompts and no gimmicks, just the work that makes your business the easiest one for an AI tool to recommend with confidence. I do it myself rather than handing you a list of recommendations.

AI visibility check

I ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google the questions your customers ask, from your area, and record who gets recommended, what's said about you and which pages get cited. That gives you a baseline and shows exactly which competitors the AI tools prefer, and why.

Answer-ready content

Clear service pages, honest pricing, FAQs and comparison content written so each section answers one real question in plain English. That's the format AI tools quote from, and it converts better for human visitors too. You don't need an AI SEO agency to get cited; you need clear, well-structured pages that answer real questions.

Schema and structured data

Organisation, LocalBusiness, Service and FAQ markup that labels who you are, what you offer and where, so machines don't have to guess. Because I build and maintain WordPress sites, I add and test it myself.

Entity and listing consistency

AI tools cross-check you against your Google Business Profile, directories, social profiles and any press. I make your name, address, services and description match everywhere, and fix the old listings that contradict each other. My AI SEO services cover schema, entity consistency and answer-first copy on the pages that bring you work.

Crawler access and technical SEO

Plenty of sites block AI crawlers by accident through a security setting or robots.txt rule. I check which bots can reach you, fix what shouldn't be blocked, and make sure pages load fast and render without relying on scripts.

Reviews, mentions and reporting

A routine for genuine reviews, mentions on trusted local and industry sites, and a monthly plain-English report: how the AI answers about your business changed, alongside your normal Google rankings and enquiries. As an AI SEO consultant, I test how ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews describe you before changing anything.

An honest answer

Is AI search optimisation different from SEO?

Mostly, no. The foundations are the same, and anyone selling GEO as a completely separate discipline is overselling it. Google's AI Overviews pull heavily from pages that already rank, and ChatGPT's web answers lean on the same trusted sources Google does.

What does change is the emphasis. AI answers reward pages that give a clear, quotable answer to a specific question; they lean harder on reviews and third-party mentions than on your own claims; and they only work with sites their crawlers can actually read. So I treat AI search optimisation as SEO with those three things pushed further, and I measure it in both places: where you rank in Google, and whether the AI tools recommend you. If you'd rather keep it simple, my SEO services and local SEO plans cover the same foundations.

The process

How AI search optimisation with me works

The same four steps for every business. Everything happens remotely, so it works wherever in the UK you're based.

First

Free audit

I check your website, your Google rankings and what ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI say when your customers ask about your service, then tell you honestly what's holding you back. Unlike a generative engine optimisation agency, I build and edit the site myself, so recommendations become changes the same week.

Then

Fix the foundations

Crawler access, schema markup, page speed and consistent business details across your profiles and listings. The quick wins that make you readable and trustworthy to machines.

Next

Answers and authority

Service pages, FAQs and pricing rewritten to answer real questions clearly, plus a routine for reviews and mentions on sites the AI tools already trust. ChatGPT SEO is mostly about being specific: services, locations and prices written plainly enough to quote.

Every month

Test, report, repeat

I re-run the same AI questions and your Google rankings, and send a plain-English report showing what changed, what I did and what's next.

What is AI search optimisation?

AI search optimisation is the work of getting your business mentioned, cited or recommended in AI-generated answers: Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot. You'll also see it called generative engine optimisation (GEO), answer engine optimisation (AEO), LLM SEO or AI SEO. They all describe much the same thing.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. AI answers change from one question to the next and nobody controls them. What I can do is make your business the clearest, best-supported option in your area and industry, which is what makes the AI tools more likely to recommend you, and I'll show you the before and after every month.

How long does AI search optimisation take to work?

Technical fixes such as unblocking crawlers and adding schema can be picked up within weeks. Being recommended more often builds over months, as your pages, reviews and mentions accumulate, much like normal SEO, which typically takes 3–6 months to show meaningful results.

How much does AI SEO cost?

It runs on my SEO plans: Local SEO Starter at £250/month, SEO Growth at £500/month and SEO Premium at £1,000/month, all monthly rolling with no minimum contract. A one-off written SEO audit is £295.

Do I need a new website to show up in AI search?

Usually not. Most sites need clearer pages, schema markup and crawler access rather than a rebuild. If your site is slow, built on a platform that hides content behind scripts, or simply out of date, a website redesign can fix the foundations and the AI visibility at the same time.

Is my website blocking AI tools?

It might be. Security plugins, hosting firewalls and robots.txt rules can block AI crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot without you knowing. If they can't read your site, they can't recommend you from it. Checking this is part of every audit I do.

Is GEO just a buzzword for SEO?

Partly. The foundations are the same as good SEO, and pages that rank well in Google are the ones AI Overviews tend to quote. The difference is emphasis: clearer answers, more weight on reviews and third-party mentions, and making sure AI crawlers can read your site. I'd rather be honest about that than sell it as something mysterious.
