A WordPress rebuild to showcase stunning outdoor spaces
Wild by Design are a garden design, landscaping, and woodland management company based in Surrey. They create everything from residential gardens to wild meadows and sustainable landscapes — the kind of work that photographs beautifully but wasn’t being shown off properly online.
Max got in touch because their existing WordPress site wasn’t doing them justice. The work was award-winning, but the website was dated and clunky — it didn’t reflect the quality of what they were actually delivering. For a company whose entire business is visual, that’s a problem.
The brief
The main priority was showcasing their projects properly. Wild by Design work across garden design, landscaping, and woodland management — three distinct services that attract different types of clients. The old site lumped everything together and made it hard for visitors to find what they were looking for.
Max and Tarun (the directors) also wanted to improve their search visibility. They were getting work through referrals but knew they were missing out on people actively searching for garden designers in Surrey and Sussex.
The rebuild
This was a ground-up rebuild rather than a refresh. We kept WordPress because it made sense for their needs — they wanted to add new projects regularly without relying on me for every update.
The process
We spent six weeks on this one. I visited their office in Dorking a few times to work through the project face-to-face — it’s always easier to talk through ideas in person, and it was good to meet Max and Tarun properly rather than just over email.
The project ran smoothly from start to finish. We worked through designs and revisions until they were happy, built it out, and launched without any major hiccups. Not every project needs a dramatic story — sometimes things just work.
Project showcase
The portfolio was the heart of the rebuild. We structured it so visitors can filter by service type — garden design, landscaping, or woodland management — and each project has enough space to show the transformation properly. When your work looks this good, the website’s job is mostly to get out of the way and let the images do the talking.
Ongoing SEO
Beyond the rebuild, we’ve been working together on SEO on a monthly basis. Garden design is competitive in Surrey and Sussex, with plenty of established companies already ranking well.
Since we started, they’ve seen a massive increase in both traffic and leads. The new site isn’t just prettier — it’s actually bringing in business.
The result
Wild by Design now have a website that matches the quality of their work. The project showcase does what it should — makes people want to get in touch — and the ongoing SEO work means they’re finally being found by people searching for garden designers in their area.
