We Are XI: Refreshing an experiential tech company’s WordPress site

Bringing a designer’s vision to life for the IUF Group

We Are XI is a London-based experiential event technology company — they create immersive, interactive digital experiences that connect people with brands. Think cutting-edge tech installations, innovative visitor interactions, the kind of work that makes events memorable. They’re part of the IUF Group, who I’ve worked with across a few different projects.

Their existing WordPress site had become outdated and needed some attention. The content was still relevant, but the design and functionality weren’t keeping pace with the quality of work they were actually delivering.

The brief

This was a collaborative project with their in-house graphic designer, Andy. He handled the design side — creating the visual direction and layouts — and I developed everything on WordPress. It’s a setup that works well when you’ve got a talented designer who knows the brand inside out.

The site needed to showcase their full range of services: ideation, development, production, creative, project management, and account management. Each area needed its own space, but the site also had to feel cohesive and reflect the innovative, tech-forward nature of what they do.

The build

We ran weekly check-ins throughout the project to keep everything on track. When you’re working alongside an in-house designer, that regular communication is essential — it means questions get answered quickly and nothing drifts off course.

Design implementation

Andy provided the designs and I translated them into a working WordPress site. The goal was pixel-perfect implementation that matched his vision while ensuring everything functioned properly across devices and browsers.

Templates for independence

I set up templates for the blog and portfolio sections so the team could add new case studies and content whenever they liked. For a company that’s constantly working on new projects, being able to showcase fresh work without waiting on a developer is important.

Server migration

Once the site was complete, I migrated it onto their in-house server, which I now manage for them. Having everything under one roof gives them more control, and having me handle the server management means they don’t need to worry about the technical side.

The result

The refreshed site properly reflects what We Are XI does — innovative, immersive tech experiences. The design Andy created comes across exactly as intended, the team can manage their own content, and everything runs on infrastructure they control.

It’s been good working with the IUF Group across multiple projects. When you build that kind of ongoing relationship, each project gets smoother because you already understand how the team works.
